When it’s time to celebrate your son’s first birthday there are a few things to keep in mind when planning a party.
Most of the time, celebrating a first birthday is geared more toward the adults in your son’s life - make sure to invite the people that have meant the most to you and your son over the past year - the more involved they were in his life, the more excited they will be to celebrate his first year!
If you decide to invite other babies or toddlers make sure you have plenty of adult help during the party. You will also want to make sure to provide activities or toys that are age-appropriate for the guests. Keep breakables out of reach - just because your son knows where to go and how to act in your house, it doesn’t mean his friends will have the same courtesy - shut any doors that lead to areas where children don’t need to go, and “baby proof” the party area.
Remember to be flexible. The goal is to have fun, not be stressed out - your little guy certainly won’t care if the cake doesn’t match the streamers - so you shouldn’t either. And be prepared for unexpected tears and outbursts from other children - remember, this could be their first birthday party, and they are still learning what it means to be social!
And most importantly, remember to take pictures and enjoy the day. Before you know it, you’ll be celebrating his 16th birthday, or his graduation - so take everything in and cherish the moments!
