   Of course you need to plan a little in advance and it helps if you have karaoke equipment. Just like on the show choose a particular theme or song list and have the kids attending the party choose from those. That way you will not have to work too hard to get the music together. If someone attending can play guitar or piano then you might not even have to have the music on hand.

   Give each guest 3 or 4 minutes to perform. You might even have 3 guest judges (can be parents) who give feedback on the performance. One fun thing the judges can do for younger kids is after they give their feedback have one stand up and yell “You’re Going to Hollywood”! The kids love that part.

    Some tips for planning you American Idol party. A. Make sure you are completely familiar wht any electrical equipment before the party, the kids will be excited about showing their own talent. B. If a guest does not want to perform, let them help with costumes, stage help etc. Just make sure that there is a special gift for everyone. C. Do not let the kids be judges. Even the nicest children can unintentionally hurt someone’s feelings. D. Ask an adult to video the performances or at least take pictures.

    If your having an American Idol party you’ve got to have singing! Once the karaoke machine has worn out its welcome try a different type of singing game. Name a popular song - have guests stand in a line. Give them the first line of the song and then get each person to give the next word. If they forget the word then they are out. The last one standing is the winner.
